SUMMER 2021 SEA & SKY COLLECTION
Each piece in this collection was painted at one of our beautiful beaches in San Diego this summer (click on the image to find out the beach where it was created). Ocean water was used as my paint water/thinner, so these have an extra dose of love from the sea & sand.
Acrylic, oil & chalk pastels, salt water & sand on heavy watercolor paper; sealed and ready for a standard size mat and frame.
This piece was painted at Bermuda Beach in Ocean Beach.
That horizon line...where the sea and sky kiss...is a place that is constantly changing, yet always stays the same. Sometimes that line fades and they become one, while other times one is trying to outshine the other with its stunning beauty.
Acrylic, chalk pastel, pencil, charcoal, salt water & sand on heavy watercolor paper; sealed and ready for a standard size mat and frame.
This piece was painted at Coronado Shores Beach on Coronado Island.
The coastline…that magical place where the sea collides with land. Whether the shore is sandy, rocky, full of shells, seaweed or sea life, it's in a constant state of change. And the sound of the waves is the most mesmerizing sound on earth.
Acrylic, chalk pastel, graphite, salt water & sand on heavy watercolor paper; sealed and ready for a standard size mat and frame.
This piece was painted at Marine Street Beach in La Jolla.
Slow down. Look up. If you stop long enough to ponder and question life, there will be messages...from the sun, the clouds, the moon, the stars...begging for conversation.

When the ocean mist is heavy and the air is cooler, we aren't as distracted by the people and activity of a sunny day at the beach. It's on these days that I notice more, both in the present moment and in my thoughts.

A well-known phrase for those who live by the coast - marine layer. Sometimes it's barely present, and sometimes it's so thick you can't see the ocean in front of you. Marine layer is so prevalent in the summer months of San Diego that we even call it "May Gray" and "June Gloom", and most of us are just waiting for that sunshine to peek through midday.
Acrylic, chalk pastel, charcoal and salt water on heavy watercolor paper; sealed and ready for a standard size mat and frame.
This piece was painted at Tourmaline Beach in La Jolla.
It's amazing to me that something that appears so light and fluffy can cast an enormous shadow of darkness below. On the sunniest of days or a stormy sky, the cloud shadows over the ocean can provide constantly changing scenery. Like a theater at the sea.
Acrylic, chalk pastel, charcoal and salt water on heavy watercolor paper; sealed and ready for a standard size mat and frame.
This piece was painted at Tourmaline Beach in La Jolla.
The energy of the moon is undeniable. The way it waxes and wanes every single night for us to watch...dancing among the stars, bringing us love and light.
Acrylic, chalk pastel, graphite, salt water & sand on heavy watercolor paper; sealed and ready for a standard size mat and frame.
This piece was painted at Marine Street Beach in La Jolla.
A little kingdom of sea treasures are exposed at low tide where the land greets the sea. I'm always fascinated with the vibrant colors, textures, flora, fauna and LIFE that exists in the pools of blue and turquoise water. Pure magic.
Acrylic, oil & chalk pastels, charcoal, salt water & sand on heavy watercolor paper; sealed and ready for a standard size mat and frame.
This piece was painted at South Mission Beach.
Even though I'm a pure sunshine lover, there is something so powerful about watching storm clouds form over water. The dramatic grays and black invade the sun and take over the sky, bringing an impending rain and for me...a strange mixture of sadness, excitement, hope, and feelings of renewal.
Acrylic, oil & chalk pastels, charcoal, salt water & sand on heavy watercolor paper; sealed and ready for a standard size mat and frame.
This piece was painted at Ocean Beach.
I spend a lot of time at Ocean Beach, as it's the closest beach to us. I have watched my kids and their friends grow up there, seen countless sunsets over the ocean and witnessed some of the most beautiful skies at that beach. Each time I'm there for sunset, I marvel at the changing sky over the ocean...then turn around and see a completely different sky over the town. It's like the most romantic poem in the sky.

Most people are familiar with the "golden hour" - that time before the sun sets when the sky has a warm, golden glow. Well, there is also the "magic hour", which is the time after the sun sets and the sky is often laden with pinks, corals and purples. I call this the Pink Hour.
Acrylic, oil & chalk pastels, charcoal and salt water on heavy watercolor paper; sealed and ready for a standard size mat and frame.
This piece was painted at Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach.
Dear Ocean, You are gorgeous, mysterious and healing. You bring me peace every single time I see you. Your energy is contagious and people are happier around you, because you connect people with nature and the true essence of life. I'm sometimes scared of you, but that fear is what makes me feel alive. I'm sometimes scared FOR you, as humans don't always take care of you and your inhabitants. I'm always in awe of your beauty. I'm always going to respect you. Love, Jennifer

Nothing makes me happier than sitting in a beach chair, with my feet in the sand, listening to the waves rolling onto the shore while watching the sun glisten over the ocean. The sun-kissed sea is where I want to be.
Acrylic, oil pastel and salt water on heavy watercolor paper; sealed and ready for a standard size mat and frame.
This piece was painted at Law Street Beach in North Pacific Beach.
Gentle and calm, but powerful and mysterious. The essence of freedom and adventure, yet the waves crash like a rollercoaster of feelings and emotions. Peaceful on the outside, but so vulnerable underneath. My heart is the ocean...wild and full of love.

Silent winds, gentle breezes, blustery winds, twisting and twirling through the sky without a destination. The wind dances and sings, carrying scents and bits of nature with it. I imagine the different shapes of the wind as it travels the air, and I see those shapes in the clouds.

Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe is a wonderland of crystal clear turquoise, blue and green water, surrounded by large rocks and boulders and pristine beaches. It's nature's playground with a backdrop of pine tree-covered mountains...just heaven.

Without leaving home, it connects us to people and places that we crave. Although I love the actual thing, seeing photos or watching videos of travel adventures fills up my wanderlust spirit...and doesn't cost a thing! I'm always happy to travel vicariously.

Sing with me...
"Laughing and a running hey, hey
Skippin' and a jumpin'
In the misty morning fog with
Our hearts a thumpin' and you
My brown-eyed girl
You, my brown-eyed girl"
- Van Morrison
Acrylic & chalk pastel on heavyweight linen textured paper; sealed and ready for a standard size mat and frame.
Back in my days of waiting tables, we used to go to a bar after work where the musician would always sing "Brown Eyed Girl" and all the brown eyed girls would jump up and sing. One day, a co-worker introduced me to the funky 1970 song "Green Eyed Lady" by Sugarloaf; he'd sing it to me all the time and then I had my own song too. (You must listen to it!)
"Green-eyed lady, lovely lady
Strolling slowly towards the sun
Green-eyed lady, ocean lady
Soothing every raging wave that comes"
